I see this standard as the most influential towards creating a well rounded individual, When I taught I made it my personal goal as a male teacher to be a role model for the male identifying students in my class a good adult role model. I had a students in one of my classes say goodbye to me at the end of the day and as we were saying goodbye they asked me if I saw on of the TTUC’s that was in the building. I told them no and they said “She was fine” and I immediately stopped them and got them to come into my class where I had a very serious discussion about that kind of language and that they cannot treat women like that. I also had to reestablish the boundary that they were my student and that they had to remember that this kind of language can be seen as violent. It was by no means a fun conversation but I knew that as a teacher but also as role model that this kind of language would not fly.
