I enjoyed my experience at DPTODD. The main take aways for me were attendance and how the building you work in changes your mood. DPTODD’s student body was very different from when I had my LOP at College Heights, the biggest difference I noticed was Student attendance. My 2 classes has 26 and 25 students, I never had a full class. This presented a learning curve of having to play catch up with students a lot more than I did in College Heights. I also had 2 students that I never met before which was odd to me. I never found this frustrating as I knew that students have a multitude of reasons for not coming to school and they only thing you can do is help where you can. The second thing I mentioned was the building, DPTODD has 8 windows and they are all in the library. When you leave the school, it feels like leaving a cave where you have not seen the sun in days. It really effected the mood of my fellow Student teachers; I was fortunate enough to be taking vitamin D, so it was not as bad. I wonder how it effected the students to not see the sun. Besides that, I enjoyed my experience there. In this block we also went to Barkerville, it was a fun experience where we stopped at Blessing’s grave as well as the town of Wells. I only wish I had slept in a cabin inside of a tent because that was very cold. I like walking around Barkerville and just seeing the sights, I personally do not enjoy the interactive parts where the actors will bring you up on stage because I have the unfortunate ability to draw every actor’s attention and I end up being brought up on stage.
